Get your crafty hats on because we’re about to embark on an adventure of colours, creativity, and fun! Today we will be making our of colourful tissue paper which will brighten up any summers day! This is a very simple yet fun activity to make with kids preschool-aged and up!

What You’ll Need

Before we begin, gather these awesome materials:

  • Tissue paper in all your favourite colours
  • Scissors
  • Floral wire or pipe cleaners
  • Clear tape
  • Ribbon or string
  • Optional: Glue, glitter, and other cool decorations

Step 1: Set Up Your Work Area

Let’s create an amazing crafting space! Clear a table or find a cozy spot where you can let your imagination run wild. Arrange all your materials within reach, so you don’t have to go on a treasure hunt during the crafting frenzy.

Step 2: Pick Your Rainbow Colours

Time to pick the most vibrant and awesome tissue paper colours you can find! Want a wild and bold flower? Go for contrasting hues. Prefer a soft and dreamy bloom? Pastel colours are the way to go. The choice is yours!

Step 3: Cut, Cut, Cut!

Grab those scissors and let’s get snipping! Cut the tissue paper into rectangular sheets. The bigger the sheets, the bigger your flowers will be. But don’t be afraid to experiment with different sizes—tiny flowers can be super cute too!

Step 4: Stack ‘Em Up

Now, it’s time to create a stack of tissue paper goodness. Take several sheets of the same colour and neatly place them on top of each other. The more sheets you use, the fuller your flower will become.

Step 5: Fold and Hold

Get your folding fingers ready! Accordion-fold the stack of tissue paper with each fold about an inch wide. Once you’re done folding, grab a piece of floral wire or a pipe cleaner and tightly twist it around the centre to hold everything together.

Step 6: Snip Those Edges

Time to give your flower some pizzazz! Take those scissors and snip the edges of the folded tissue paper. You can round them, make them pointy, or even give them a fancy scalloped shape.

Step 7: Unleash the Petals

It’s fluffing time! Carefully separate and fluff each layer of tissue paper, starting from the centre and working your way out. Gently pull each sheet towards the centere to create volume and make your flower come to life. Awesome petals, here we come!

Step 8: Let’s Get Fancy

Feeling extra crafty? Let’s add some flair to your masterpiece! Grab some glue, glitter, sequins, or anything that sparks your creativity. Add a touch of sparkle or a sprinkle of magic to the tips of the petals for an enchanting effect. You’re the artist, so let your imagination go wild!

Step 9: Stem It Up

Ready to make your flowers stand tall? Grab a piece of floral wire or a pipe cleaner and bend one end into a small loop. This loop will keep your tissue paper flower in place. Stick the looped end into the base of the flower and twist it tight. Ta-da! Your flower now has a stem.

Step 10: Show Off Your Blooming Masterpieces

It’s time to display your incredible creations! Arrange your tissue paper flowers in a vase, create a stunning bouquet, or use them to decorate gifts. Let your flowers bring joy, color, and happiness to everyone who sees them.
